Activated carbon should be selected around the process rather than the product name alone. The right grade depends on what is being treated, what needs to be removed and how the treatment system operates.活性炭选型应围绕实际工艺，而不是只看产品名称。合适型号取决于处理对象、需要去除的物质，以及系统运行方式。
For a gas-phase adsorption bed, airflow, pressure drop, humidity and contact time may be important. For liquid purification, the main concerns may be color, odor, organic impurities, ash content or filtration after carbon treatment.对于气相吸附床，风量、压降、湿度和接触时间可能非常关键。对于液体净化，常见关注点包括颜色、气味、有机杂质、灰分，以及加炭处理后的过滤分离。
Where a specific gas must be removed, ordinary activated carbon may not be enough. An impregnated grade may be required, with the impregnation chemistry matched to the target contaminant.如果需要去除特定气体，普通活性炭可能不够。此时可能需要浸渍活性炭，并根据目标污染物匹配合适的浸渍体系。
